Trying to decide if I need to buy a digital camera

There is this digital camera I would really like to buy and I am trying to justify it to myself. I have a perfectly good 35mm point and shoot camera that works great and produces fabulous pictures. Yes, it is a bit bulky and annoying to carry around rolls of film. However, I just can’t decide if my want to buy a digital camera exceeds my need considering I have a camera. I don’t know much about how digital cameras work aside from the fact they work with memory cards instead of film and would love a bit more education about them before I make a decision to buy.
