LED Backlighting
November 22nd, 2009
How does LED Backlighting work? Good question. I’m going to assume you want the discussion that doesn’t involve stupidly complicated math that only an MIT student could comprehend, yeah? Okay, me too since my blogging software doesn’t actually allow me to use all those symbols anyway. A standard TV has one light source – a cathode ray tube at the back of it. An LED TV has an entire array of little LEDs across the entire back of the screen. In the HDTV world, there are two major advantages to this system. The first is better, deeper blacks. The second is that you get a vastly better contrast ratio – I’ve seen one claiming a 7,000,000:1 contrast ratio (average is about 80,000:1).
