Computers and IT in Your Business

October 20th, 2009

Computers are no longer the wave of the future, they are the now and in order to survive in today’s business world, you have to know how to use a computer and the programs associated with it. However, you do not have to be a computer specialist in order to be successful in the business world, but every successful business that depends on their computers (and who doesn’t these days) needs to have a business information technology specialist onsite or on call to help manage their businesses computer systems.

When the information technology (IT) field first came to fruition, these specialists have very specific jobs. They were required to maintain servers, databases, computers, etc. They were the people you called if your computer would not stop crashing or if the network seemed slow. They were the tech guys (and gals) who ensured that the computer part of your business was successfully maintained. As time went on their roles expanded and they became responsible for things like server and network security, purchasing programs and even writing proprietary programs for the company in which they work.

These expanding roles made it necessary to define them as business information technology experts rather than simply IT specialists, because their roles are so important to the business world.  The business information technology field has expanded well beyond its limited beginnings and so has the role of the experts in this field. This means, however, that their education has intensified as well as the cost of going to a technical school that specializes in information technology and computer.

The cost of hiring these talented people has increased as well to coincide with their growing responsibilities as well as the fact that with new computer technology being released every few months, these men and women are required to constantly rethink what they know and become certified in new technologies on a regular basis.  Businesses today look very different from the business models of yesterday and that massive change has a great deal to doe with business information technology. As the world changes, computers change with it and so do the requirements of IT specialists everywhere. Without information technology and the experts that maintain it the entire world would be a very different, very slow place in which to live.
