The beagle dog breed is instinctively a hunting breed. Small game is what they were used for originally. However, the good and sweet nature of this breed makes the beagle a great family pet. Beagles have a distinct bark, called a bay which is part bark, part howl. Beagles love to bark and they can be relentless so you will need to learn about beagle training to teach your pup when it is okay to bark and when it is not okay.
