The bulgarian Christmas

November 14th, 2008

Christmas Eve in Bulgaria by tradition may be called “Dry Christmas”, “Little Christmas” or “Incensed Night”.Bulgaria’s Orthodox Church recommends 13 different foods on the Christmas-eve meal. The meals usually consist of vegetable and odd in number for luck. Beans are a traditional Christmas Eve dish in Bulgaria. There are always walnuts on the table. Traditionally, wheat is boiled and dishes such as boiled haricot, leaves stuffed with rice or grouts, and stewed dried fruit are cooked. The Key for having a great time is the fact that the family gather together, talk, laugh and enjoy that incredible evening.
