Gala Coral, UK Gambling Company Warns of Botnet Denial-of-Service Attack

You might not have heard of DDoS or denial-of-service, however Gala Coral, one of the largest UK gambling companies had their gambling sites taken down by a new 10Gb next-generation DDoS attack for nearly 30 minutes recently. This was unearthed at the latest e-Crime Congress of 2008 in London this week.
Apparently Cyber-criminals analysed and reproduced the browsing habits of the gambling sites’ typical users, then disguised the build up of traffic from as many as 30 000 PC and Apple Mac botnet best bingo bonuses computers. The information security officer of Gala Coral e-Commerce said that attackers had spent approximately 4 months infiltrating the site ahead of the attack.
