Contractor Internet Sales: How To Capture Contact Info

March 25th, 2009

We’ve all been there before.  You go to a website, you find some info you are interested in, and then BAM they hit you with a pop up that asks for your name and email address before you can access the content you were looking for.  It’s annoying isn’t it?

Think about the times when you went ahead with it anyways and put in your contact info.  Maybe you didn’t even think it was annoying.  Maybe you even wanted to give them your contact info.  Why are you sometimes so willing to share your info, and other times you close the window immediately, infuriated that they had the nerve to ask you for your email address?  The answer boils down to one word: VALUE.

If you think the content on the other side of that contact info form is extremely valuable you will gladly exchange your name and email address for that content.  If however, you don’t think that content is going to be very valuable you probably won’t put in your contact info to avoid being bombarded by spam.

So what is the lesson here?  How do we capture our visitors contact information?  By trading valuable information (and remember this info has to be valuable in the eyes of the consumer, not just something you think is valuable) for name and email address.  As long as the visitors to your contractor internet salessite know that they are going to be getting something of value they will gladly give you their name and email.
