solar fountains

November 27th, 2009

There’s one hitch in the process and functionality of solar fountains: If something comes between the solar panel and the sunlight, the water stops. The sun’s rays might be blocked by a passing cloud, a branch of a nearby tree, leaves of a large plant, or a shadow from a passing pet or person. This reality has caused some solar fountain manufacturers to include an additional electrical connection to keep the fountain running at all times. However, many environmental advocates prefer to operate their solar fountains solely with sunlight, so they don’t mind the occasional break in the water’s flow. It just seems more natural that way.
