Cutlery from Sheffield
April 23rd, 2009
Sheffield is a city with a huge history in cutlery and stainless steel. The city is set within seven hills and is served by 5 rivers which made it an ideal setting for an industrial town during Medieval times. Iron ore was commonly found in mines close by. There was also an abundance of coal in the local area and this allowed specialist forges to thrive. As a result Sheffield became synonimous with high quality steel. The abundance of steel allowed the cutlers to produce fine cutlery of esteem. Sheffield cutlery became The cutlery of choice and is still in much demand today.
