Bass Guitar for the Band I am In

I just joined a band, and I am so excited about it. When I first joined, they told me that I would be playing guitar, which is great because that is what I play. Then, it turned out that someone else wanted to play guitar, so I needed to learn a new instrument. I thought it would be best if I could know how to learn bass guitar. It seemed like it must not be all that different than guitar. So, I just picked it up and started playing. So far, I really like it, and I just need to get some more practice in.
