Choosing the Right Aquarium Light Bulbs

August 31st, 2010

The right aquarium  light bulbs are needed  in  order to have a successful tank. Each kind of aquarium light  is  suited for a  specific kind  of tank condition.  Incandescent aquarium light bulbs are ideal for low light organisms. These are also good for reptile tanks and terrariums. Normal output fluorescent light bulbs are good for freshwater, fish only and shallow tanks. These are cheap to buy and replace and come in different types and colors.

High output or very high output bulbs are good for freshwater, planted and nano reefs. They are also good for saltwater fish. These are small and brighter than fluorescent bulbs.  However, they need specific fixtures and will not last as long as normal output bulbs.

Power compact aquarium light bulbs are good for almost anything and they are moderately priced, versatile and long-lasting.  They are also very small, allowing you to save more space in the tank. Metal halide bulbs are suitable for coral reefs and planted tanks.
