What’s the Low-Down on Blue Cross of Georgia
August 15th, 2008
Since the 1930s, Georgia residents have been able to get health insurance through blue cross of Georgia and its predecessor organizations. It started in 1937 when the Atlanta Blue Cross Plan was formed. Other plans started up and through a series of mergers, Georgians ended up in 1985 with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.
The current President of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia is Monye Connolly. The organization he runs works to provide health care services to literally millions of people. It has received accreditation from the National Center for Quality Assurance for its HMO and POS products and from the American Accreditation Healthcare Commission/URAC for its PPO product.
One of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia’s distinctive features is the "360 Degree Health" program. This program encourages improved individual health by focusing on education on healthy living, preventative care, and case management and coordination. Some of the specific facets of it are programs to help people stop smoking and get more exercise through regular walking. There are also a variety of newsletters including one specializing in Women’s Health published as part of the program. Also, discounts are made available for eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, fitness club memberships, and more.
