What Is X Stop ?

August 25th, 2008

X Stop is a non-fusion form of surgical implant that is used in some circumstances to treat a condition known as Lumbar Spinal Stenosis. The implant is made of a titanium alloy and the surgery is performed under a local anesthetic while the patient is positioned on their side. This surgery takes between 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Usually the patient is allowed to go home following a 24 hour period within the hospital. Up to two X Stop implants can be placed along the lumbar spine should there be a multiple level stenosis.
X Stop for Spinal Stenosis is a fairly young surgical procedure and one that gained FDA approval in 2005 with a four-year follow-up study showing that patients treated with X Stop experienced sustained and contained relief of symptoms.
Worldwide, more than 11,000 titanium alloy implants have been inserted. If this is a procedure that you believe might help you, please speak with your primary care physician.
