What is an exercise mat and why do I need one?

While you workout, especially when doing floor exercises, it’s helpful to invest in a good quality exercise mat.   When you have a well padded mat underneath you, your back, shoulders, and legs are cushioned and protected. 

Mats come in foam rubber, plastic, and hard rubber.  There are also some interlocking hard foam mats that you can lay as tiles in how ever big an area you choose. 

The mats attempt to make exercising more comfortable and encourage more to exercise often.   To effectively improve your bodies tone and appearance you should exercise often.  One of the most effective floor exercises you can do is bicycling.  That is lying on your back with legs up and peddling!  But it also helps to have your hands behind your head and touch your left elbow to your right knee as that leg comes up.  Next touch your right elbow to your left knee and repeat this workout often.  A well cushioned floor can make this a much easier task.
