Understanding The PPO Affordable Health Insurance Plan
April 17th, 2008
For many years now HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plans have attracted quite a lot of bad press and, while much has been done to meet this criticism, they are still not popular with many people. One alternative however is an affordable health insurance plan known as a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan. PPOs are similar to HMOs in that care is provided within a network of healthcare providers with whom insurers can negotiate substantial discounts to keep costs low. PPOs also tend to focus their attention on preventative medicine and on keeping you well rather than treating you once you become ill. However, PPOs meet one of the major criticisms of HMOs by allowing you much greater freedom when it comes to your choice of treatment and allows, within boundaries, for you to seek treatment outside of the healthcare network if you wish to do so.
