The South Beach Diet Plan is not the Atkins Diet

Both saturated fats and carbs are eliminated from the South Beach diet plan. Only some oil such as that of olive oil is allowed on the plan and only in moderation. Good fats are included in the diet and these help the metabolism instead of hinder it. These good fats help lower LDL cholesterol which clogs arteries.
In the beginning the South Beach Diet Plan may seem similar to the Atkins diet, because much of the carbs are taken out in the first two weeks, but the reason this happens is because the body is being taken off of its production of blood sugar and insulin cycle. The first phase is the most difficut of the diet.
