Sciatica Treatment: Know Your Options

July 30th, 2008

Symptoms of back, leg and pelvic pain can be a sign of sciatica. Sciatica is pressure on the sciatic nerve that runs from the buttocks down the backs of the legs. Sciatica is often caused by a herniated disk in the back. There are sciatica treatment options available. For mild cases, you can use over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs, hot and cold therapy and exercise. If you have to see a doctor for the pain, he or she may suggest prescription drugs or physical therapy. In severe cases, he or see may suggest epidural steroid injections, which will help temporarily. Another option is back surgery to repair the damage.
