I Need to Know What Causes Zits

I was just sitting in class the other day, and I was not able to answer a question that my teacher asked me. We were going over some things about our skin and the way that our body works. She asked me waht causes zits, and I was just not able to answer her at all. I know that I need to find out some other things about zits. Maybe if I can find the right answers, I can actually give an answer to my teacher, and I will be able to get rid of my own zits. That would be so nice.
