Gastric Bypass Surgery Is Increasingly The Choice Of The Young
March 6th, 2008
Morbid obesity is on the rise and, perhaps most alarmingly, it is now being seen at younger and younger ages each year. Gastric bypass surgery is also being increasingly seen as the only real solution to the problem of morbid obesity for many people and advances in surgical techniques, combined with much lower risks from surgery, mean that more and more doctors and insurance companies are now supporting surgery as an option. The vast majority of surgeries are still carried out on adult patients, who probably account for more than 85% of all procedures today. However, gastric bypass surgery is now increasingly being seen as a solution for younger sufferers and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 now also represent a significant proportion of those undergoing weight loss surgery.
