From heart to hair, fish oil is beneficial.

June 30th, 2009

Though there are some related health claims that are considered more questionable, a growing body of evidence indicates that fish oil health benefits are numerous and weighty. Fish oils are derived from the tissues of fish like mackerel, lake trout, flounder, albacore tuna and salmon, as well as sardines and herring. They contain omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), both of which play important roles in cardiovascular health. They also have anti-inflammatory properties. Cosmetically, fish oil is recommended for hair loss and brittle nails. There are a number of shampoos and nail treatments infused with essential fatty acids.
