fentanyl patch recall

I’m a nurse and believe it’s important to stay calm when encountering news of recalls. The best prevention related to the fentanyl patch recall is to check the dosage of the box recalled (25 micrograms) . The news article states that you should flush them down the toilet if you find cuts or tears in them. I’m not too sure that this is wise as it certainly would introduce a large amount of opioids into our water system. Maybe putting them in the trash and closing the bag might be safer to the environment.
