Acid reflux disease or gastric reflux disease is characterized by chronic symptoms or mucosal damage caused due to the abnormal reflux in esophagus. Gastro esophageal reflux disease is commonly termed acid reflux owing to the regurgitation of stomach acids or digestive juices along with the food. The stomach follows the esophagus, but after a barrier, which can undergo permanent or transient changes, to cause acid reflux. Dysphagia is a condition caused due to troubled swallowing, which serves as an indicator to acid reflux, apart from regurgitation and acid reflux.
The lining of esophagus comes in contact with the refluxed stomach acids that causes irritation of the chest and throat and is called acid reflux. Since acid reflux is very difficult to be detected among children, vomiting, coughing or even effortless spitting can be taken as indicators. My next post will be about, acid reflux in babies.
