A Peanut Allergy Is A Very Serious Condition

May 20th, 2008

Many people have food allergies in one form or another, but one that is quite common and serious is the peanut allergy. Peanuts are very commonly found in many foods which is why it is very important to monitor everything you eat if you are allergic. And since children suffer from many types of food allergies, they should be tested for nut allergies at an early age especially if their parents are allergic. There is an increased chance that they will inherit this allergy. With children, their bodies are not as equipped to deal with a foreign allergen as adults. Their immune systems are still growing and sometimes cannot deal with a serious reaction. Milk and nut allergies are very common in children, but luckily can be outgrown by the time they reach five years of age. However, this is not always the case as food allergies can stay with them into their adulthood and for the rest of their lives. Testing is an important first step. A doctor or allergist can do this and also explain what to look for going forward.
