December 28th, 2011

The xxy genetic disorder is caused in males due to the presence of an extra X chromosome. This particular genetic disorder is called Klinefelter syndrome that affects sexual development. The XXY genetic disorder affects one in five hundred to thousand males. People suffering from this disorder typically possess small testes and do not produce enough sex hormone, the testosterone. A normal individual possesses two X chromosomes (Sex chromosomes) in case of female and XY chromosome pair in case of males. However, in case of XXY genetic disorder, one extra X chromosome is present in a male’s cells (XXY). The XXY genetic disorder is not a hereditary disease and occurs due to some random even during the formation of eggs and sperms. An error in cell division results in a reproductive cell with an extra number of chromosomes. People with this kind of genetic disorder possess reduced body hair, infertility, and can have gynecomastia.
