Grandad’s Tackle Shop

Since my Mom worked until 5, after school my brother and I used to walk to Grandad’s Tackle shop a couple of blocks from our house. Grandad used to clear some space in his office for us to work on our homework, but not until “the candy challenge.” It was a tradition, there was a sign that hung over a doorway in his shop. He would pretend that he wouldn’t give us any candy unless we could jump up and hit it. We never did until my brother figured out how to improve vertical. Well, that and he had been on a growth spurt.
