The Biggest Anniversary Gift I Could Afford

May 19th, 2008

My wife and I had always wanted a boat. We are both avid sailors and talk about going out on the water all the time. We even took a cruise for our honeymoon. Water is our passion. So, for the past several years, I had been withholding fifty dollars a week from my paychecks and placing that money into a private savings account. Then, for our 25th anniversary, I purchased the biggest boat I could afford. I bought it two months in advance, and kept it at a Sacramento boat storage place. Then, on the morning of our anniversary, I told my wife I had a surprise for her. We went out to breakfast at our favorite place, and I gave her flowers. Then, I told her we had to make a quick stop for business purposes. Boy was she surprised when we drove to the storage place and I showed her our new boat. Now, we go sailing at least once a month, with longer trips used for vacations in the summer. Was it worth the money? Absolutely.
