Customized license plates are covered with a UV protective laminate making them more durable than airbrushed license plates. Government officials argue that license plates are government property and are nonpublic forums. Two license plates are issued to other types of vehicles registered by the DMV, including passenger vehicles and trucks. Special group license plates are plates that generate funds for specific purposes or honor or recognize specific groups of people.
