Latin American World Instruments
February 22nd, 2008
Music binds the people together irrespective of their caste, color, region, and sex. This fact has given rise to the concept of world instruments. These are the musical instruments that are very popular all over the world despite their country specific origins. The only difference lies in the way in which they are played. Some Latin American musical instruments that fall in this category are- Banjo, Congas, Rattle Drum, and Claves.
Banjo is one of the most familiar musical instruments that is commonly used in jazz, blue and ragtime music. The instrument is like a long neck with a circular body. It has five strings. Congas are the drums that are played in pairs. It is the modern version of African drums. It is used extensively during Latin festivals as well as in pop and rock music. Rattle drum has seeds inside it which gives a very peculiar sound while Claves are the pair of sticks that are used in the popular Latin Dance Rumba.
